You Reap What You Sow: Trump Edition

President Donald Trump

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Galatians 6:7. Survey question. Has Donald J. Trump ever read Galatians? Has he ever heard of Galatians? Can you hear Mr. Trump saying Galatians, as if it was a word he wants to get out of his mouth because it tastes bad?

My mom, of blessed memory, always told us: Everyone gets theirs! Exactly what she meant we will never know. And, for sure, she never read Galatians. But, as Mr. Trump gets his from those who have surrounded him, I know she’s smiling!

Goldberg

Nothing we’ve seen lately should surprise anyone. Jeffrey Goldberg’s story for The Atlantic – he’s the editor-in-chief there, and it’s no coincidence that he wrote the story – tells us what we already knew about DJT: he’s a selfish bastard who cannot understand why everyone else isn’t like him. Yes, the story relies on anonymous sources, and that’s unfortunate. However, The Atlantic has been around for 163 years. Mr. Goldberg, a professional with an excellent reputation, will not jeopardize that trust. Take this one to the bank, or ask yourself: Why are people around Mr. Trump lying about him?*

Cohen

Coming on Tuesday? Michael Cohen’s book, Disloyal: A Memoir: The True Story of the Former Personal Attorney to President Donald J. Trump. Yes, Mr. Cohen plead guilty. He’s a felon and a liar … but does anyone expect better from the people who populate Mr. Trump’s inner circle?

So far, Mr. Cohen has confirmed the fact that his boss has no use for those who serve our country selflessly. He’s also shared some tidbits about Mr. Trump’s obsession with Barack Obama and African-Americans. I expect we will get much more, too. So far? No reason to doubt Mr. Cohen’s recounting.

Woodward

Then, on September 15, we get Rage, Bob Woodward’s latest insider account. Mr. Woodward – he’s 77, and if that doesn’t kick people like me in the ass, nothing will – interviewed POTUS 17 times. (Who decided letting Mr. Trump talk to Mr. Woodward was a good idea? We know the answer, and the fact that Mr. Trump doesn’t know how to listen to others tells us much about what’s wrong here.) Despite having had the opportunity to talk with Mr. Woodward repeatedly, Mr. Trump has labeled the book a “fake.” Of course he has and if he didn’t we’d wonder about Mr. Woodward’s competency.

You Reap What You Sow, Mr. Trump

Donald J. Trump and his crowd have had their fun. Times up, though! We have a country – ~230 years old – on life support. A few people voted the way they did, and we have a totally antiquated system for putting people in charge of running a 21st century nation / superpower. We need to listen to the people who know this momzer best. The people with whom The Atlantic spoke, who required anonymity before they would share their recollections. Mr. Cohen, a challenged man who gains nothing by lying. (We will sup at his knee, without regard for how much dishing he does.) And Mr. Woodward, who has created and been challenged by his journalistic methodologies … and is still relevant, almost 50 years after he and Carl Bernstein worked the Watergate story.

Mr. Trump, you deserve everything which is coming your way! You treated all of us badly, and what’s gone around is coming around! Maybe this country will survive and maybe it won’t, but you’ve earned your place in its history.

P.S. Happy Labor Day, and vote. Vote like your life depends on it!

*Mr. Trump tweeted Laurene Powell Jobs, Steve’s widow and Mr. Goldberg’s boss, suggesting that her late husband might be angry. Right, and I’m sure the little missus got herself all worried about Mr. Big Man!
