Asymmetrical Craziness

Dr. Scott Atlas encourages large holiday gatherings. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has “inquired about” unlawfully tossing Georgia absentee ballots, while the person to whom he made the suggestion – Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger – gets death threats from Just Folks who want Trump to get the Georgia electoral votes. The Missouri Senate can’t meet because too many senators and staffers tested positive, after a mask-less retreat several days ago. (Same story. Different M state.) Meanwhile, the New York Times reports 166,581 new COVID-19 cases on November 16, 82% more than 14 days ago. And from President Trump? Silence.

Sheer stupidity. Arrogance too. A regular You Are Not The Boss of Me

San Francisco

SF Crosstown Trail Map

My San Francisco adventure was is marvelous! Before I share details, though, indulge me as I give thanks.

First, off to play for four days, what with a needy four-legger and a crazy busy law / fiduciary practice, happens only because LB minds the store, and Max. As I age, I recognize the need for breaks and nary a one gets a challenge from my best friend, girlfriend, and law and business partner. Thank you, sweetie pie.

Second, Leigh and I go nowhere if we didn’t have a great young attorney, Matthew Scarber, to step up. Thank you Matt and, too, the staff we love – Kathleen Dugan, Carla Flores, Katie Petrick, and Connor

Richard Nixon: Spinning

Nixon

Richard Nixon

Don’t go near Richard Nixon’s grave anytime soon; too much kinetic energy!

President Nixon covered up crimes, and likely committed many for which he was never charged or convicted. A bad actor, for sure, but what happened at the U.S. Department of Justice on February 11, 2020, surely has him spinning on his axis.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys represent us in court. We employ 93 U.S. Attorneys, and they employ many ASUAs. On the criminal side, these men and women represent us very well. Attorneys who prosecute criminal cases want, in many instances, to work for the United States. Frankly, federal cases often involve more complex and more interesting cases. The pay is better, too,

Decades, Redux

Decades, Redux

decades, redux

Mark Rubin

I give in! For me the 20th century ended on 12/31/2000, and this decade ends in 364 days. Right is right, but what does and doesn’t matter matters too … and when the decade ends represents a non-issue.*

The Teens started early for me, on Friday, September 4, 2009. I was winding down for the afternoon, ready for the Labor Day weekend. Leaving my building—I owned it—I noted some water coming out of a pipe, into the parking lot. Bothered a bit and thinking about the hassles associated with finding a plumber on a Friday afternoon of a holiday weekend, I left.

By Tuesday morning, I understood the nature of the problem: a bad

Donald J. Trump, Goner

donald j. trump, goner

I have a PredictIt account. PredictIt offers legalized betting on political events. Fun it is, and it’s legal because smart people study the predictive power of crowds.

Whether “Donald Trump shall be president of the United States at 11:59:59 p.m. (ET) on December 31, 2018” is the bet, and I have the No position. (The rules are very precise.) If I cashed out now my profit pays for most of a night on the town with LB, which includes drinks, shared fish and chips, tax and the large tip at our neighborhood bar. And If I hang on and he’s gone by the time the ball drops next in Times Square I’ll be the smiling guy,

Action by Anecdote

Our Fearless Leader tweets … still! For a few days last week we enjoyed quietude, or what passes for calmness in Epochus Trumpus. (Dramatic? For sure, but we’re 437 days into the Trump Administration, and if you’re not feeling like it’s been an Age you’re not paying attention!)

Immigration

The Twitter blasts returned on Easter morning, with sound and fury signifying nothing. The subject? Immigration. DACA. Dumb immigration laws. Blah, Blah, blah! The prompt? Huge Immigrant Swarm Prompts Trump Tweets on DACA.*

OMG, a huge swarm. Traveling through Mexico as a caravan. How many people? 1000. Wait. What? More than 1000 people? OK. Whatever will we do about the swarm of more than 1000 people?

The March for Our Lives

The March for Our Lives

March for Our Lives

The March for Our Lives passed today, without any violence. Good on that, and thanks to law enforcement, governmental bodies, and event organizers. (And, of course, thanks to those who didn’t like today’s message but chose not to do anything more than exercise their First Amendment rights.)

Rubio

As seen in D.C.

People near and dear to me went to Washington for today’s main event. I’m so proud of them for showing up! Others showed up in their own communities, including thousands—me among them—right here in Tucson.* Showing up matters, lots, and it matters especially when young people lead the cause, instead of those of us who have more yesterdays and fewer tomorrows. We’re killing

Warner Wolf did sports for many years. He’s famous for Let’s Go to the Videotape, and this link shamelessly helps Mr. Wolf sell his book. The guy has sued Don Imus, which explains my interest in helping him.

Anyway, here’s my videotape. Stretch yourselves, non-clickers! Watch A. Bunker, of 704 Hauser St. in Queens, and a veteran of the Big War. In reverse he channels D. Trump, of 85-15 Wareham St., in Queens, who avoided service in Vietnam because of bone spurs. Norman Lear created Archie Bunker. And our Momzer-in-Chief? Candidates include Fred Trump, Roy Cohn, and sub-human matter I can’t mention in mixed company.

Get Over Yourselves About Impeachment

impeach

The New York Times reported, on September 1, that Mueller Has Early Draft of Trump Letter Giving Reasons for Firing Mueller. Political Wire linked to the story, with the headline Pence Linked to Decision to Fire Comey, and wrote: This is a pretty big deal.

No, it’s not! I’m sorry, but the people who focus on a legitimate basis for impeachment are so “decades ago.” But not even, for future President of the United States of America Gerald Ford said, on April 15, 1970, “an impeachable offense is whatever a majority of the House of Representatives considers it to be at a given moment in history.”

Impeachment won’t likely be in Donald

Cacophony of Crap: The Trump Decades

Cacophony of Crap: The Trump Decades

cacophony crap

Cacophony of Crap, Mess of Merde, Superadundance of  … well, you get the idea! The man has been in office for just about 194 days. Roughly 16.693 million seconds. I’m exhausted, and not shy about fessing up!

Remember when President Donald Trump fired James Comey, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Within a day or so the president said, about the firing: “I faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off.” We all screamed obstruction of justice. Remember? Wait. What? “Who’s James Comey?” Feels like eons ago!

There’s good stuff happening in the Time of Trump, for sure. Check on your retirement accounts. You’ll smile. For me, at
